Roof Maintenance... It's More Important Thank You Think

It’s Not Always About Replacing a Roof
For a long time now, we’ve been saying the same thing: it’s not always about replacing a roof, and it’s not always about repairing one. Sometimes, it’s as simple as maintaining and taking care of the roof you already have.
We were recently called out for a roof leak, and I want to walk you through what we found and what we’re doing to fix it.
What We Found
The leak was located directly below a scupper. When we got up there, it didn’t take long to see the problem—heavy buildup of debris. I had already started cleaning it up earlier that morning, but the collector head was completely full, and every drain and scupper on the building was in similar condition.
What’s surprising is that this roof is only about a year and a half old. I know that because we actually bid this project. We didn’t get it—we came in a little high—but here we are now, back on the roof doing the maintenance work.
This property is the City of Cleburne’s conference center, and it’s a beautiful facility with a great seating area below. Once we’re finished on the roof, we’ll be cleaning up down there as well.
The Real Issue: Lack of Maintenance
The clogging you saw didn’t happen overnight. Mud, leaves, and organic debris had built up and blocked proper drainage. That backup is what caused the leak—not a failure of the roof system itself.
And here’s the key point: the customer didn’t call us out for a full roof cleaning. They had a small leak. But when we saw the condition of the drains and scuppers, it was clear that simply fixing the leak wouldn’t solve the underlying problem.
So we cleaned it all.
Not just the blockage, but the surrounding debris as well. Leaving muddy water and organic material behind would only lead to more issues down the road.
Why This Matters
Organic material—leaves, dirt, and debris from nearby trees—breaks down over time. When it sits on a roof, especially on single-ply systems like TPO or PVC, it can accelerate deterioration and shorten the lifespan of the roof.
And really, this applies to any roofing system.
If you want your roof to last, you can’t just install it and expect 30 years out of it with no upkeep. Regular maintenance is what protects your investment.
Not All Roofing Companies Are the Same
Take a look at this job and ask yourself: how many roofing companies do you know where the owner is out there doing this kind of work?
How many companies truly know what’s happening on their job sites because they’re involved, hands-on?
The work isn’t always pretty. But when you’re serious about taking care of your customers, this is what it looks like. It’s about doing whatever it takes—that’s what sets us apart.
At our company, that mindset isn’t optional. It’s who we are. Everyone on our team shares that same commitment to doing the job right.
Where That Mentality Comes From
People often ask what separates us. The answer is simple: attention to detail.
I served in the Navy, and that sharpened it—but it started long before that with my dad, Ron Maiden. Many people who knew him from his years at Alan Samuels or Freddie Kish’s will tell you the same thing: his attention to detail was second to none.
He taught me to work like no one’s watching—and to do it to perfection anyway. To give your best effort every time, no matter what.
That’s something I’ve carried with me my entire life.
I’m not a salesman, and I’ll never claim to be one. I’m just someone who works hard. And that’s what this company is—a group of people who work hard and will do whatever it takes to earn your trust, and keep it.
